A Bit About Jessie
I was born in the small town of Milton Ontario where my initiation into the world of music began in the hallowed halls of my local church. I lent my voice to gospel plays, sang fervently from the pews, and let the melodies envelop me for many years. As a child I became immersed in a rigorous 10-year classical piano training, culminating in a distinguished graduation with grade 8 honours. During that time I was a part of the Milton Youth Choir where I harmonized and honed my vocal prowess, travelling to different places with an amazing group of young singers.
Walkman on, mp3 player, or iPod in hand, the allure of headphones painted a broader canvas of the musical world for me, becoming a cherished escape. With an ever-growing passion and a thirst for deeper exploration of the voice and myself, I recognized that to delve into the intricate art of music, I needed to transition to Toronto — a pulsating heart of musical innovation and exploration.
I embarked on a pivotal phase of my musical journey at Humber College, where I undertook a comprehensive Bachelor's degree in Voice. The curriculum provided an intensive dive into the intricate nuances of jazz, advanced theory, improvisation, composition, songwriting, performing, production, and precision-focused ear training. This structured pedagogy enabled me to develop a profound expertise across various genres, including rock, jazz, alternative, blues, and R&B.
I acquired significant experience working in their state-of-the-art recording studio, mastering the processes of recording, editing, and mixing music and collaborating alongside upcoming and leading experts in the industry. This practice refined my technical awareness and ingrained in me meticulous attention to detail.
My vocal technique training began under the expert guidance of Ryan Luchuck, my very first vocal coach in Toronto. This foundation set the stage for my time at Humber College, where I was mentored by a stellar lineup of instructors, including Lisa Martonellie, Christine Duncan, and Dylan Bell. Post-graduation, I've had the distinct honour of continuing my vocal refinement under the watchful eye of the esteemed Opera Coach, Charles De Raimondo. Parallel to my traditional training, I've enriched my vocal techniques through online courses by globally recognized figures like Ken Tamplin and Melissa Cross.
Before expanding into Toronto’s broader music scene, I held a summer residency at Chudleigh’s Apple Orchard during their Summer Cider Nights series. I began performing as part of a duo with my longtime collaborator Jake Demarsh, and returned the following year with Evesdrop, a band I founded with fellow Humber College students. These performances helped shape my versatility and stage presence. Around the same time, I began collaborating with other bands across the GTA, performing blues and rock in a variety of live settings.
I currently have the great pleasure and opportunity to be a part of the celebrated Toronto-born cover band, Wing Night. Together, we've enthralled audiences at iconic venues like The Opera House, Danforth Music Hall, Lee's Palace, Sneaky Dee’s, Maxwell's in Waterloo, Rum Runners in London Ontario, Cider and Beer Festivals, Intimate weddings, and even as far-flung as Nunavut, with 90’s Hip-Hop and R&B music. Being a part of this band has allowed me the honour of surrounding myself with music and musicians who are both inspiring, talented, and all-around fantastic friends, nurturing my growth as an artist and musician. I am also a part of a Steely Dan cover band named, Gaucho. Being a part of both of these bands has allowed me to enrich my life in music and further hone my skills of performing as a part of a team.
With over ten years of dedicated teaching experience, I've come to cherish the responsibility of mentorship. My association with respected institutions like House of Chords and Merriam Music enabled me to guide many budding artists in both voice and piano. Each lesson becomes a pivotal moment, not just to impart technical knowledge, but also to challenge and transcend their preconceptions. My mission extends beyond teaching notes and scales; it's about facilitating a transformative journey, helping students break through the limitations of what they believe they know, and guiding them toward realizing their full potential as musicians. Now, with immense excitement and pride, I have established two locations of my own — one in the vibrant heart of Toronto and the other in my hometown of Milton.
As I gaze into the future, my heart brims with excitement. I am deeply passionate about expanding my teaching roots in Toronto and Milton. With each lesson, every mentor, and 10,000 + hours of practice, I remain committed to evolving, ensuring my voice and skill set reach ever-greater heights. The prospect of collaborating with friends, embracing new challenges, and mentoring the next generation of musicians fills me with anticipation. With every note and lesson, I look forward to writing new chapters, discovering unprecedented harmony with others and riding the rhythms of life.
